Parsing the product description field

Third party sources of notice information may not provide separate product information. Often, product data is lumped together in a single text field. If you import the notice from a third party or have a lot of different information combined in a single description, you can parse the product description field by a delimiter that you define and then use actions to add this information to the proper sections within the notice

To parse the product description field, there must be text in the Description field.

  1. Open a notice and select the Products tab.
  2. Open a product from the list.
  3. Select Actions > Parse Product Description.
  4. Specify a Delimiter. The default value is a semi-colon.
  5. Click OK.

    The Update Product page is refreshed. A Parsed Product Description Details link is displayed:

  6. Select the Parsed Product Description Details link. The parsed information is displayed in a list. You can work through the list to create products on the notice or serial or lot numbers for a product.
  7. Create a new product from the details work list:
    1. Select one or more detail items in the list.
    2. Click Actions > Create New Product.
      The new products are added to the Products list on the notice and the detail items are removed from the list.
  8. Create lot or serial numbers for a product from the details work list:
    1. Select one or more detail items in the list.
    2. Click Actions > Create Lot Number or Actions > Create Serial Number.
    3. Select the product to which the lot or serial number applies and click OK.
      The lot or serial number is added to the product detail information and the detail items are removed from the list.
  9. Remove parsed information that does not apply to a product. Select the detail item and click Actions > Delete.

    When the Parsed Product Description Details list is empty, the link is no longer available on the Update Product page.
