Creating child accounting units

After you create accounting unit structures, you can create accounting units within existing structures.

  1. Select Financials > Global Ledger > Setup > Finance Enterprise Group > Maintenance.
  2. Open the finance enterprise group and click the Accounting Entity tab.
  3. Open an entity and click the Accounting Unit Structures tab.
  4. Open a structure and click the Hierarchy tab.
  5. Select the parent hierarchy and select Actions > Create Child Accounting Unit.
  6. Specify this information:
    Type
Select whether the accounting unit is a Summary or Posting accounting unit.
    Accounting Unit
Specify the accounting unit name. You cannot change the name after you save the accounting unit, but you can change the Description.
Note: When you create a summary accounting unit, the system automatically adds the structure number and an underscore to the beginning of the summary accounting unit name to allow it to be used in multiple structures. For example, if you name the summary accounting unit "FACILITIES" the system saves it as "1_FACILITIES" in the first structure created.

This reduces the allowed number of characters for the summary name. If you enter a summary name that takes the entire available field size, the system removes characters at the end of the summary name value when prepending the structure number.

    Description
Specify a description for the accounting unit.
    Budget Identifier
If you selected a Summary accounting unit, specify the budget identifier.
    Address Code
Specify the address that is associated with the accounting entity accounting unit.
    Effective Date
Select the effective date for the accounting unit.
  7. Click OK.
