Sell price unit of measure

A sell price unit of measure (UOM) is the UOM that you use to price items. You can have multiple sell price UOMs for any inventory item. You are not required to establish a base price for each valid unit of measure. If you specify a UOM other than the default, then you must provide a base price for that UOM.

An item can have a different Sell Quantity UOM than Sell Price UOM.

When calculating the price for the item, the quantity is converted to the smallest UOM available using any valid sell price UOM conversion process.

Sell Price UOM Example

A company sells soft drinks in cases, six-packs, and individual cans (each).

UOM Price
Case 9.60
Six-pack 3.00
Each .75

A customer orders 39 cans. The ordered quantity is calculated to determine that the quantity fills 1 case, 2 six-packs, and 3 each.

If the quantity on the invoice requires multiple units of measure to be shipped, then the line may be eligible for a broken case charge. You can assign broken case charges to price lists, promotions, and contracts. For information about setting up customer eligibility for broken case charges, see the Receivables User Guide.
