Creating asset templates

  1. Select Financials > Asset Accounting > Asset System Setup > Asset Templates.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Specify this information:
    Asset Template
    Provide a unique name and description for the asset template.
    Asset Company
    Select the asset type company that is associated with your asset template. If this field is blank, then the process cannot verify your selections for the type and book.
    Asset Type
    Specify an asset type and subtype that is assigned to an asset using this template.
  4. On the Asset Options tab, specify this information:
    Asset Category
    Select whether the asset is Depreciable or Non Depreciable.
    Asset Account Group
    Select the account group to assign to any asset that is created using this template. You can override this account group when this template is used to add an asset.
    Asset Dimension Group
    Select the dimension group to assign to any asset that is created using this template. You can override this dimension group when you add an asset with this template.
    Location
    Select a location name to assign to any asset that is created using this template. You can override this value when you add an asset.
    Division
    Select a division name that is used for any asset that is created using this template. You can override this value when you add an asset.
    Default Transaction Dimensions
    Specify the account information in the transaction dimension.
    Transaction Dimension Default
    Use this field to control the Default Transaction Dimensions field on the asset interface file.
    • Select From Template to insert the default code block from the asset template. If the code block is not defined on the asset template, then the distribution code block is used.
    • Select From Distribution to assign the distribution code block to the resulting asset interface record.
    • Select Leave Blank if the code block on the default transaction for asset interface should be blank on the resulting asset record. If you select this value, then the process dimensions are provided in the Asset Dimension Group. Otherwise, maintenance is required before you can create an asset from the interface record.

    Project
    Select a posting project to track depreciation expense. Specify a project in this field to override the depreciation expense on the asset type.
    Work In Process
    Select this check box to indicate whether this template is used to create assets that are work-in-process. When this check box is selected, the asset cannot be released and asset journal entries are not created for project assets.
    Tax Exempt
    Select this check box to indicate that this template is used to create tax exempt assets.
    Simulated
    Select this check box to indicate that this template is used to create simulated assets.
    Used
    Select this check box to indicate that this template is used to create used assets.
  5. Click Save.
