Using ship to location for SDQ03

To force the use of the ship to location value for the SDQ03 value.

An SDQ segment is used in the 850 transaction set to transmit detailed shipment information for a specific location. This is typically used with a Low Unit of Measure (LUM) or Just In Time (JIT) vendor process. The default location that is sent in the SDQ segment is the line requesting location. This record provides a way to override the default location that is sent in an SDQ segment with the PO header ship-to location.

A typical Inventory or Requesting setup have a multiple requesting locations and a few ship-to locations. The requesting locations and request items are filled by a From Location that is typically a ship-to location. When a new product is required, it is ordered and shipped to the ship-to locations to be provided to the requesting location.

An alternative setup is to have generic requesting locations and create unique ship-to locations. When the requisition is created, the ship-to is specified as From Location. When the PO is created, From Location is sent as the Ship-to location. This process provides direct delivery of products to those locations. The EDI mapping process does not handle this alternative setup. The generic requesting location is sent in the SDQ segment and not the desired ship-to value. The ship-to is sent in the N1ST segment, but the process and expense of on-boarding the individual locations can be prohibitive. Using the SHIPTO value in the SDQ segment can avoid those costs.
