Each country has a specific format for tax identification numbers. Countries in the same region, such as the European Union (EU), may have similar formats.

Under GST, the registration number is known as GSTIN. GSTIN is a 15-digit unique registration number with the same registration number shared between the state and central government.

Data structure of the GSTIN:

  • Characters 1-2: State code
  • Characters 3-12: PAN
  • Character 13: AS17
  • Character 14: Blank
  • Character 15: Check digit
