Tax ID format
Each country has a specific format for tax identification numbers. Countries in the same region, such as the European Union (EU), may have similar formats.
Chile specifics
The single tax identification, also known as Rol Único Tributario (RUT), is a unique tax identifier.
All natural, national, or foreign entities receive a National Unique Role (RUN) that is granted by the Civil Registry and Identification Service. This number also serves as an identifier to the IRS and to any other government agency.
The RUT and RUN format are the same, XX.XXX.XXX – Y. RUT, 8 digits, one dash, and one check digit.
In Chile, the check digit is derived from an algorithm known as Mod 11.
