Creating the bill of materials

Define the bill of materials for a style by adding existing style, material, or trim records as BOM items or by creating BOM items specifically for the style on the BOM page.

  1. On the style details page, click the BOM icon.
  2. Specify main information:
    Main Version
    Select the check box to mark this BOM as the main BOM version of the style.

    The first BOM version is automatically set as the main version.

    Name
    Specify a name for the BOM version.
    Status
    Select a status from the list.
    Locked
    Optionally, after specifying main information and adding items to the BOM, select the check box to lock this BOM from editing.
    Filter By
    After specifying main information and adding items to the BOM, select a filter option. Use this function when multidimensional size ranges are assigned in BOM materials.
    Exchange Rate Type
    Select an exchange rate type.
    • An Actual exchange rate type pertains to current values of an exchange rate.
    • A Budget exchange rate type pertains to an exchange rate that is set by an organization for one entire budget period.
    • A Simulation exchange rate type pertains to forward rates that are expected to take place in the future.
    Exchange Rate Date
    Specify the exchange rate date.
    Base Currency
    This field displays the currency that you define as the base currency. You cannot change the value in this field.
    BOO Version
    Select the applicable BOO version from the list.
    Batch Quantity
    Specify a batch quantity amount. This amount is used when computing the quantity of a BOM line together with the value of Quantity in Percentage.
    Batch Quanity UOM
    Select a unit of measure from the list. This field is a generic lookup and defined in Generic Lookup.

    If you specify a value for Batch Quantity, this field is required.

  3. In the Lines section, add BOM items.
    • Click Add Materials, Add Trims, or Add Styles to add existing records as BOM items.
    • Click Add New Row to create BOM items for the style on the BOM page.
    • Click Add Items from Favorites to create add items from your favorites lists.
  4. For each added BOM item, specify this information:
    CI
    Select the check box to mark the BOM item as a cost indicator (CI). A BOM item that you mark as a cost indicator is included in the computation of the style's costing. Selecting this check box also enables you to map the BOM item to a cost element.
    Seq #
    Optionally, modify the sequence of BOM items. Sequencing sorts BOM items for viewing
    Main
    Optionally, select this check box to mark this item as the main material of the style.
    Number
    If you added an existing style, material, or trim record, this field displays the number of the record.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the number for the BOM item.

    Number field has a drop-down search bar for adding materials, trims and styles.

    Name
    If you added an existing style, material, or trim record, this field displays the name of the record.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the name for the BOM item.

    Description
    If you added an existing style, material, or trim record, this field displays the description of the record.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, provide a description for the BOM item.

    C&C
    Select to tag this BOM as an item used in Care & Content to import composition information from.
    Component Type
    If you added an existing style, material, or trim record, this field displays the component type of the record.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the component type for the BOM item.

    Main Category
    If you added an existing style, material, or trim record, this field displays the main category of the record.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the main category for the BOM item. Available main categories depend on the component type of the BOM item.

    Category
    If you added an existing style, material, or trim record, this field displays the item category of the record.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the item category for the BOM item. Available categories depend on the component type of the BOM item.

    Category Group
    If you added an existing style, material, or trim record, this field displays the category group of the record.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the category group for the BOM item. Available category groups depend on the component type of the BOM item.

    Operation
    Select an operation from the list. The list of operations shown in this field depends on the selected BOO Version.
    Quantity Type
    Select a quantity type.
    • Select Line Dependent to define quantity per BOM line.
    • Select Size Dependent to define breakdown of quantity by style size per BOM line.
    • Select Batch Qty Dependent to derive quantities from Batch Quantity. If you select this quantity type, Batch Quantity and Batch Quantity UOM cannot be empty.
    Quantity in Percentage
    Specify a value. This value is used to compute Quantity as a percentage of Batch Quantity if Batch Qty Dependent is selected as Quantity Type. The total of all Quantity in Percentage must be equal to 100%.
    Quantity
    Specify the quantity.

    If Quantity Type is set to Size Dependent, the value on the Quantity field becomes clickable. If you click the quantity link, the BOM Line Size Quantity pane is displayed. The available sizes for the BOM item are displayed on the pane. You can set the quantity for each size.

    If Quantity Type is set to Batch Qty Dependent, this field is read-only. The value is computed as the product of the values of Batch Quantity and Quantity in Percentage.

    Quantity UOM
    Select a unit of measurement for the quantity.

    When you select Batch Qty Dependent as Quantity Type, Quantity UOM is read-only and gets its value from the Batch Quantity UOM field.

    BOM Line Colors
    Colorways that are assigned to the style are displayed.

    To add colors to a BOM item, double-click the color cell. The Add BOM Line Colors pane is displayed. By default, the Add BOM Line Colors pane shows the Style Colorways. You can select colors from the Style Colorways, from the Color Picker, or from the Color Library.

    If the BOM item has multiple colors, click and hold on the first cell then drag the mouse pointer to select the column cells, then add colors from the Add BOM Line Colors pane.

    To create an on-the-fly color with no color pitch:

    1. On the BOM Line Color cell, either double-click or click Add Colors.
    2. Select the Color Picker.
    3. Specify either the color name, color code, or select a color below the pane.
    4. From the drop down menu, select No Color.
    5. Click ADD. Click ADD AND CLOSE to add colors and close the pane.

    To add a text-only color:

    1. Select one or several BOM Line Color cells.
    2. Click the Add Color Text icon or press Alt+E.
    3. In the Add BOM Line Colors pane, specify the color name in either the Name or Code field.
    4. Click ADD. Click ADD AND CLOSE to add colors and close the pane.
    Composition
    This field displays the composition of the BOM item that you have defined in the material or trim details page.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, click this field to define the composition. In the Composition window, specify the Component %, Type, and Layer.

    Note: If the BOM item is a material record and that material has layers, the composition format in BOM is as presented this way, as an example: Facing: 80% Nylon, 20% Lycra; Backing: 100% Cow
    Image
    Click the Add Images icon on the Lines section toolbar to add an image to the BOM item.
    Critical Material
    Specify whether or not the BOM item is a critical material.
    Chemical Warning
    Specify whether or not the BOM item contains chemicals that require extra care in handling.
    Style Size Range
    This field displays the size range that is assigned to the BOM item.
    Style Size Code
    This field displays the sizes that are assigned to the BOM item. To assign sizes to the BOM item, click the Add Style Sizes icon on the Lines section toolbar.
    Component Size Range
    This field displays the component size range and applies only to BOM items that are trims.

    If you specified a trim record as a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the component size range in this field.

    Component Size Code
    This field displays the component size code and applies only to BOM items that are trims.

    If you specified a trim record as a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the component size code in this field.

    Notes
    Provide notes about the BOM item.
    Placement
    Select a placement from the list. Placements are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
    Partner
    This field displays the preferred/main partner that you have identified for the style, material, or trim record that you added as a BOM item. If you have not yet identified a preferred/main partner, you can specify the supplier name in this field.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the partner in this field.

    Currency
    This field displays the currency for the purchase price. If the currency for the purchase price is not yet defined, you can select a currency from the list.
    Purchase Price
    This field displays the purchase price of the BOM item. If the purchase price for the BOM item is not yet defined, you can specify a price in the BOM item line.
    Total Purchase Price
    This field displays the total purchase price based on the quantity and purchase price of the BOM item.
    Purchase Price Base
    This field displays the purchase price in base currency.
    Total Purchase Price Base
    This field displays the total purchase price in base currency.
    Cost Price
    This field displays the cost price of the BOM item.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the cost price in this field.

    Waste %
    Specify the percentage of waste generated when producing the material.
    Total Cost Price
    Displays the total cost price based on the quantity and the cost price of the BOM item.
    Cost Price Base
    This field displays the cost price in base currency.
    Total Cost Price Base
    This field displays the total cost price in base currency.
    Construction
    This field displays the construction of the BOM item.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the construction in this field.

    Weight
    This field displays the weight of the BOM item.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the weight in this field.

    Weight UOM
    This field displays the unit of measurement for the weight.

    If you created a BOM item on the Lines section, specify the unit of measurement.

    Fiber Content
    Specify the fiber content of the BOM item.
    User Defined Field
    Specify values for user-defined fields. User-defined fields are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.

    User Defined Field 12 and User Defined Field 13 are multi-select fields that contain generic lookup values depending on the defined Component Type of the BOM line. If the Component Type is set to Material or Trim, the values of User Defined Field 12 and User Defined Field 13 come from the defined Material or Trim's User Defined Field 12 and User Defined Field 13.

    You can select any values from these fields manually.

    If you add BOM lines by selecting material or trim records from the Library, User Defined Field 12 and User Defined Field 13 in style BOM inherit the selected material or trim's User Defined Field 12 and User Defined Field 13.

    Part
    Specify the part of the style where the BOM item is used. Parts are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
    Free Field
    Use free fields to specify details for your BOM item that do not fall under any defined field.
    Note: You can add BOM lines by copying a BOM line from this style or another style, and pasting it on this style.

  5. Click Save.
