Creating materials
You can create materials by using product attributes, such as colors and characteristics. You can also define the financial and ownership information, as well as add related files, associated to your material.
- From the menu, select Basics > Material.
- Click New.

Specify main information:
Note: Some fields may have dependencies to other fields because of how your data hierarchy is defined and how your access to data hierarchy levels is configured. Hover over the Field Dependencies icon for each field to view these dependencies.
- Material Number
- Specify a material number. The material number serves as
the identifying code for your material within the
application.
Optionally, click the Generate ID icon to generate a material number based on defined ID rules.
- Name
- Specify a name for the material. If the name generator is set
up for material, this field is read-only.
The name is generated upon saving.
The name is updated if the values of the fields that are defined in the name generator setup have changed.
The value of this field is automatically translated to supported languages based on your browser's language setting.
- Description
- Provide a description for the material.
- Main Category
- Select a main category from the list. Main categories are a
generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
If multiple name generator rules are set up, the value of this field determines what rule applies.
- Category
- Select a category from the list. Categories are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
- Category Group
- Select a category group from the list. Category groups are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
- Material Type
- Select a material type from the list. Material types are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
- UOM
- Select a unit of measurement from the list.
- Season
- Select a season from the list. Seasons are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
- Brand
- Select a brand from the list. Brands are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
- Division
- Select a division from the list. are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
- Deliveries
- Select a delivery type. Delivery types are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
- User Defined
- Select a user-defined value. User-defined fields are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
- Status
- Select a status from the list.

To add image to the material, click the Images icon.

Click Add Images
- Click Add local from local files to select an image from your local computer.
- Click Add from library to select an image from the document library of the application.
- Select images and click Add.

Specify main partner information:
- Preferred / Main Supplier
- Select a partner from the list. Available options depend on partners that you have assigned to the material.
- Preferred / Main Supplier Name
- This field displays the name of the main partner.
- Agent
- Select an agent from the list.
- Country of Origin
- Select a country of origin.
- Certificate
- Specify any information on certificates that are applicable to this material.
- User Defined 3
- Select a user-defined value. User-defined fields are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic Lookup.
- Mill ID
- Select a partner mill from the list.

Specify additional partner information:
- Sample Min. Qty
- Specify the minimum quantity that this partner requires for a sample.
- Sample Min. Qty UOM
- Select a unit of measurement for sample minimum quantity.
- Sample Price
- Specify the price that this partner requires for a sample.
- Sample Price Currency
- Select the currency for the sample price.
- Unit of Measure
- Select a unit of measure
- Price Unit of Measure
- Select the price for the selected unit of measurement
- Purchase Price
- Specify the purchase price.
- Purchase Price Currency
- Select the currency for the purchase price.
- Min. Order Qty
- Specify the minimum quantity that this partner requires for an order.
- Min. Order Qty UOM
- Select the unit of measurement for the minimum order quantity.
- Min. Order Qty / Color
- Specify the minimum quantity for each color that this partner requires for an order.
- Min. Order Qty / Color UOM
- Select the unit of measurement for the minimum order quantity for each color.
- Lead Time
- Specify the lead time that this partner requires for orders and samples.
- Lead Time UOM
- Select the unit of measurement for the lead time.

Specify notes information:
- Notes
- Provide notes for this material.
- Free Field
- Use free fields to specify details for your material that do not fall under any defined field.
- Date Field 1
- To add dates to your notes, select dates.
- Date Field 2
- To add dates to your notes, select dates
- Template Item
- Select this check box to specify that this material is a
template item.
A template items serves as the basis for creating materials. It can be used as an actual material record.

- Designer

Specify additional information and details:
- Construction
- Select a construction type from the list. Construction
types are a generic lookup type and can be defined in Generic
Lookup.
For knits and woven materials, this field is automatically populated based on the details specified in the material's Construction page.
- Placement
- Specify the placement of this material.
- Item Type
- Select an item type.
You can define item types in Generic Lookup.
- Waste %
- Specify the percentage of waste generated when producing the material.
- Finish
- This field displays the finish that you specified in knit or woven construction.
- Width
- Specify the width of the material.
- Width UOM
- Select a unit of measurement for the width of the material.
- Weight
- Specify the weight of the material.
- Weight UOM
- Select a unit of measurement for the weight material.
- Repeat Height
- Specify the repeat height.
- Repeat Height UOM
- Select the unit of measurement for the repeat height.
- Repeat Width
- Specify the repeat width.
- Repeat Width UOM
- Select the unit of measurement for the repeat width.
- Finish
- Certificate
- Specify any certificate information that is applicable to the material.
- Critical Material
- Select this check box if this material is critical to a style.
- Chemical Warning
- Select this check box if this material contains chemicals that require extra care in handling.
- Discrete Item
- Select the check box to mark the style as a discrete item.
- Date Field 1
- Select a date from the calendar.
- Date Field 2
- Select a date from the calendar.
- Waste %
- Specify the percentage value.

To specify the composition of the material, type a value in the percentage
field and select a component type from the list. You can define components in
Generic Lookup.
Note: You can specify a layer for the components of your material. If you specify layers for a component, you must specify layers for all other components of your material. You can define layers in Generic Lookup.
If the total component composition percentage is below 100%, an error message appears when you save the material record. The total component composition percentage can go beyond 100% but it must be in multiples of 100.

In the Main Responsibilities section, specify this information:
- Responsible
- Select a user from the list.
- Created By
- This read-only field is filled up with the
name of the user who creates this record.
If this record is created before release 16.0.15, the value of this field is System User.
- Modified By
- This read-only field is filled up with the name of the user who last modified this record.
- Create Date
- This read-only field is filled up with the date when this record is created.
- Last Modified
- This read-only field is filled up with the date when this records is modified.
- Click Save.
