Tagging and mapping

You can use tagging and mapping to control where documents are displayed in the portal. Place documents in landing page sections and widgets by configuring data items and, when needed, adding meta tags. This approach is referred to as intuitive interlinking (IIQL), which connects content to landing pages and widgets through tagging rather than fixed links.

Data items are pre‑built into document templates and define the document’s primary landing page and section. You must configure the data items first. To make the same document available in additional locations, you must add meta tags to the document.

You can then configure meta tags on documents that are pre-built for specific landing pages. You can also add meta tags to place documents onto custom landing pages or secondary pages on the portal if the document must be listed on more than one landing page.

This table shows the variables used for the interlinking strategy:
Variable Purpose
Subject Identifies the landing page where the document link is displayed
Section Identifies the specific section of the landing page where the document link is displayed
Widget Identifies the widget where the document link is displayed

Understanding how these variables work together can help you control where documents are displayed throughout the portal.

Landing page structure

A landing page uses this structure and elements:
  • Uses a single subject value that uniquely identifies the landing page.
  • Includes nine main sections, numbered _1 through _9.
  • Includes a related links section identified by _link that shows links in the left sidebar.
  • Includes a forms section identified by _form that shows links in the Find a Form area of the left sidebar.
  • Can be associated with widgets that are displayed on the Home page.
