A widget is a unit of content that is displayed on the Home page. There are several types of widgets that are pre-defined and to which content can be mapped.

Landing Page Widgets

There are two widget styles: standard and card style. The card style option is the default setting.

Card Style Widgets

The card style widget includes two link lists, each with one link. One link list has a link to the landing page that is associated with the widget. The other link list has a link that is used to show content that is mapped to the widget.

All widgets are pre-configured with options, default text and default images. There are several configuration options for card style widgets:

  • Widget image: This option is used to add an image to a card style widget. The data items are used to add the image and the alt tag.
Note: The data items must be used to add the image and alt tag so the image is responsive for all devices and screen resolutions.
  • Widget image text: Use this option when you use the card widget look and want to place text below the image and above the link to the landing page.
  • Widget introductory text: This option is used to add introductory text to the widget. This text is placed beneath the widget name.

Standard Widgets

The standard widget includes a link list with two links. One is a link to the landing page that is associated with the widget. The other link is used to show content that is mapped to the widget. The widget can include brief introductory text and an image, which are added to the image.

Common Traits with Card Style Widgets and Standard Widgets

The subject data item determines the IIQL links that map content to the widget. This data item must be configured.

Access to the documents that are shown on the widget are determined by groups. All content in the widget must be tagged appropriately and not directly added to the linklist. This includes content and redirect or SSO integration URLs. Use the meta tagging strategy that is determined by the landing page subject.

Dynamic Widgets

Dynamic widgets are either direct links to SmartWare or links to separate portal features like Ask HR or Announcements. Dynamic widgets cannot be edited, but they can be configured if they contain data items or options. All dynamic widgets are filtered.

Custom Widgets

You can create custom widgets that are similar to landing page widgets. The Master - Custom Card Widget Template is used to add custom card style widgets that are not tied to a particular landing page. Configuration for custom domain widgets is similar to configuration for landing page widgets.

Editing Widgets

Users with appropriate access can edit some widgets. Widgets are edited by the same means as other documents.
  • A customer may be able to configure and edit widgets, depending on the permissions that were set for the widget and landing page documents.
  • Dynamic widgets cannot be configured or edited.
  • When editing images, see Images.
  • Links are added and removed from widgets by tagging. This works only if widgets are built to best practices.
