Adding links to link lists

You can add links to a link list. You can add links to pages, topics, or other sites. If you have just added a link list, go to step 3.

  1. Access the document manager.
  2. Click the page that you want to edit. If the page is not checked out by another user, the system checks it out, and it is ready for editing. If the page is checked out by another user, you are not permitted to check it out until it is checked in again.
  3. Right-click the link list and select Add Link.
  4. Select the link type.
    Topic
Link to a topic in the document (available only if the document has multiple topics).
    Document
Link to another page on the site. If the page you're linking to has multiple topics, you can link to a specific topic. This link is filtered to the user groups that have access to the page.
    URL
Link to another site. These links are not filtered.

  5. Specify this information:
    Editor Label
The editor label for the link is auto-generated by the system. It can be overwritten. The editor label is visible only in the editor. It is not shown in the published page.
    Custom name
Specify the actual link name. (Optional)
    Alt Text
    Leave blank.
    Target
For links to pages in your portal, ignore. For links to sites outside your portal, specify _blank so the target page opens in a new window.

    HTTPS:
The default URL is built with an http:// prefix. If the site is a secure website that requires the https:// prefix, select HTTPS.
    Display Link Name As:
For links to documents only. When the link links to a page in your portal (also known as a document), set the link label to reflect either the name of the page to which you are linking or to the name of a topic on the page to which you are linking. This is often Overview. You determine the page and topic to which you are linking at the next menu. Verify that the Custom Name field is empty.
  6. After you make your selection, click Next. An options menu opens, depending on the type of link you selected:
    • If you are linking to a topic in your page, a list of topics opens.
    • If you are linking to another page (document) in the site, a list of pages opens.
    • If you are linking to a URL, a text box opens where you can type the destination URL. It is required to use either http:// or https:// when specifying a URL.
  7. Make your selection and click Save. The menu closes, and the link appears in the link list.
  8. Repeat steps 4-9 for each link that you want to add to the link list.
