Using booking restrictions

You can use the Booking Restrictions menu to manage the reservation restrictions. You can specify reservation restrictions to manage both high or low demand for guest bookings.

Restrictions are indicated as follows:

  • Closed to Arrival: Bookings closed to all guests who want to arrive on this day.
  • Closed to Departure: Bookings closed to all guests who want to depart on this day.
  • Closed: Closed for all business.
  • LOS to Arrive: Minimum length of stay restriction is applied to any guest arriving on this day. A number is displayed indicating the minimum number of days of stay required.
  • LOS to Depart: Minimum length of stay restriction is applied to any booking departing on this day. A number is displayed indicating the length of stay required before a guest can depart.
  • LOS Through Stay: Minimum length of stay restriction is applied to any guest arriving on this day. A number is displayed indicating the minimum number of days of stay required including the arrival date and the departure date.

Possible booking restrictions:

  • Overall Control: This booking restriction supersedes all other types of restrictions. Click Overall Control, the following options are displayed:
    • Replace Restrictions: Overwrites the existing restrictions and creates new ones.
    • Remove Restrictions: Deletes the existing restrictions.
    • Append Restrictions: Adds additional restrictions to the existing restrictions.
  • Room Type: You can apply the restrictions at the following levels for patterns such as full date range, day of month or the day of week.
    • Room Type Category
    • Room Type
  • Rate Plan: You can apply the rate plan restrictions at the following levels:
    • You can apply the Rate Plan Control restrictions in the Rate Plan Summary tab. The rate plan control restrictions include restrictions at market segment and rate plan level for patterns such as full date range, day of month or the day of week.
    • You can place Allocation Control restrictions in the Display Rate Allocation tab. The allocation control restrictions include restrictions at rate categories and rate plan level for patterns such as full date range, day of month or the day of week. You can also select the Free Sell check box to allow free selling of the selected rate categories and rate plans, or you can set allocations based on which rate categories and rate plans must be sold.
  • Rate Plan/Package Plan: You can place restrictions on the package rate plan in Rate Plan Control for specific dates that supersede any restrictions on the package plan. You can apply the Allocation Control restrictions in the Display Rate Allocation tab. You can specify the package plans that you want to sell for patterns such as full date range, day of month or the day of week. You can also select the Free Sell check box to allow free selling, or you can set allocations based on which the package plans must be sold.
  • Promotion: You can apply the Allocation Control restrictions in the Display Promotion Allocation tab. You can specify the promotion plans that you want to sell for patterns such as full date range, day of month or the day of week. You can also select the Free Sell check box to allow free selling, or you can set allocations based on which the promotion plans must be sold.

To use Overall Control:

  1. Select Rate and Sales > Booking Policies > Booking Restrictions.
  2. Click Overall Control.
  3. Select the restriction options.
  4. In the pop-up window, specify this information:
    Start Date
    Specify the date on which the restrictions begin.
    End Date
    Specify the date on which the restrictions end.
    Date Pattern
    • Full Date Range: The restrictions are applied to the entire range that you specify in the Start Date and End Date fields.
    • Day of Month: Specify the days of the month on which the restrictions must be applied.
    • Day of Week: Specify the days of the week on which the restrictions must be applied.
  5. In the Revenue Control Options section, specify this information:
    Option Description
    Entire Day : Closed To close out a day, select the Entire Day : Closed check box. You can also specify the minimum length of stay and maximum length of stay restrictions.
    Arrivals To set a length of stay restriction for arrivals, place the required length of stay in the Min LOS and Max LOS check box in the Arrival row.
    Open To reopen a day, Select the Open check box in the Entire Day row.
    Departures To set a length of stay restriction for departures, place the required length of stay in the Min LOS and Max LOS check box in the Departure row.
    Note: If the Property Parameter LIMITLOSRESTR check box is selected, you cannot specify a value greater than 7 for Min LOS or Max LOS (Arrive or Stay Thru).
  6. Click Save.
