Maintaining sales strategies

Manage sales strategies on the Maintain Sales Strategy screen. Sales strategy uses the market segment associated with the rate code to determine the rates that are displayed when an agent is booking a reservation, which also determines the selling order of available rates and room plans displayed to the agent. As an agent obtains information from a caller, they select a selling strategy based on that information.

For example, a caller may be booking a reservation for a local company, therefore a corporate sales strategy can be used to provide information about the preferred corporate rates. In another case, a caller may be visiting on vacation and would like to know of special offers for tourists, therefore a tourist discount sales strategy can be used to display special rates and room types available to tourists.

If sales strategies are used, but no particular sales strategy applies to a booking, then a default strategy must be configured for this eventuality. In most cases, the default sales strategy is often referred to as the Preset or Standard strategy.

To maintain sales strategies:

  1. Select Rates and Sales > Sales > Sales Strategy. The Maintain Sales Strategy screen is displayed showing a list of all the available sales strategies.
  2. Select the sales strategy and click Edit. The Sales Strategy tab is displayed.
  3. In the Property Info section, select the property for which you want to modify the sales strategy.
  4. In the Available Rate Plans section, select the rate plan to add to the sales strategy and click Add. The rate plan is added to the Sell Rate Plans in this order list.
  5. Add additional rate plans as necessary.
  6. In the Available Room Types section, select the room type to add to the sales strategy and click Add. The room type is added to the Sell Room Types in this order list.
  7. Specify the Higher Level Sort Order for the sales strategy. Your options are Rate Plan or Room Type. Selecting Rate Plan sorts the available rates based on the rate plan first and then by room type. Selecting Room Type sorts the available rates based on the room type first and then by the rate plan.
  8. Sort the rate plans in the Sell Rate Plans and Sell Room Types in this order lists as necessary by selecting the rate plan or room type and using the Move Up and Move Down buttons.
  9. Click Update.
