Reversal of payment card authorization
Reversal of payment card authorization is a process in which the property instructs the credit card provider to release any previously authorized amount that is not used. The credit card provider adds the unused amount back to the card holder's open to buy line of credit. The reverse authorization request can be for a Full or Partial amount. The reverse authorization process is especially useful in a situation when a guest checks out using a different card then what was used to guarantee the stay; making the authorization on the previous card unnecessary.
- Partial Reversal: When a credit card transaction is posted in the folio that has an authorization amount greater than the posted amount. In this case, if the difference between total authorization (original amount + all incremental amounts) and the posted amount is greater than the reversal threshold percentage configured for that card on the Transaction Code page, the authorization reversal process is initiated.
- Full Reversal: When user is checking out using one credit card but has other credit cards authorized on the account, system releases the authorization for all other cards.
