This document explains how you create a dataset, which is a user-defined storage site for budget and statistical information. Datasets are built up using key fields and accumulator fields. The transaction type connected to each dataset controls how the dataset should be used, for example, for sales statistics, sales budgets or sales forecasts.
An activated dataset, containing a set of key fields and accumulators that determine the kind of information that will be retrieved.
Datasets provide the framework for budgeting and reporting activities in the system. For example, you can forecast using datasets, which makes it possible to forecast in dimensions other than the Forecasting (FOR) component group provides.
When a dataset is created and activated, these files are affected:
|Program ID/Panel||Field||The field indicates …|
|(OSS401/E)||Division||…the division to which the dataset belongs. If the field is left blank, the dataset is considered as a central dataset. If you want to use a dataset for several divisions, you can use division as a key in the dataset.|
|Valid from/to||…the date from/to which data is accumulated in the dataset.|
|Period type||…the period type to which the dataset should be connected. Period type is a key ID in the period table that determines the length of each bucket. Valid period types are 1-5 (general period types) and 9 (used in forecasting).|
|Seasonal curve||…the seasonal curve, which describes the distribution of a value over different periods in a calendar year. Seasonal curves must be specified if transaction types containing the calculated forecast use seasonal factors for the calculation.|
…the trend curve, which is used to describe how distribution is done over the periods in a calendar year.
If this field is left blank, the trend curve for the item group is used (this requires that item group or item number is set as key in the dataset).
This trend curve is used in forecast formula 11 in calculating the forecast.
|Forecast method||…the forecast method. This is specified for each dataset for which one or more accumulator fields will be forecasted.|
…the budget version in the dataset used. The budget version can be used to provide starting values for the first forecast calculation for any combination of key values, such as a new combination of customer and item.
Budget version is a subordinate ID to the dataset and every dataset can have more than one budget version.
|Key 1, 2, 3 and so on||
…the name of a key field in the dataset. The key fields are set in a hierarchical order, for example:Key 1: Product groupKey 2: Item groupKey 3: Item number.
Default values can be retrieved for each field.
|(OSS402/B)||Field||…the database fields used to accumulate data into the dataset. This data can be either planned or statistical values such as quantity or amount.|
|(OSS403/B)||Selection field||…the ID used to select the transactions to accumulate in the dataset. This field is used as a filter, for example, if you want the dataset to be valid only for certain items.|
|(OSS406/B)||Transaction type||…what transactions should be included in the dataset, for example, sales statistics, sales budgets or sales forecasts.|
Enter Basic Information
Start ‘Dataset. Open’ (OSS401).
Enter the identity of the new dataset.
On the E panel, enter a name and a description for the dataset. Set the dates from/to which data should be accumulated in the dataset.
Enter the period type for the dataset.
If the dataset is to be used for forecasting, enter the seasonal curve and trend curve that should be connected to it, as well as the forecast method and forecast/budget version that should be used. Press F3=End.
Select the key fields that should be connected to the dataset. Up to six key fields can be combined in one dataset.
You can display available key fields by pressing F4=Prompt.
Enter optional text on the T panel.
Connect Accumulator Fields
In ‘Dataset. Connect Accumulator Fields’ (OSS402), select the accumulator fields that should be connected to the dataset.
You can display available accumulator fields by pressing F4=Prompt.
Set the sequence numbers for the accumulators that should be included in the dataset. Press F3=End
Connect Selection Fields
In ‘Dataset. Connect Selection Fields’ (OSS403), enter the selection fields that should be included in the dataset (optional).
You can display available selection fields by pressing F4=Prompt.
Connect Transaction Type
In ‘Dataset. Connect Dataset Trans Types’ (OSS406), select the transaction type for the dataset
You can display available transaction types by pressing F4=Prompt.
Press F3=End to return to ‘Dataset. Open’ (OSS401).
Select option 20=Activate. A file containing the data for the dataset and an API program for processing the read-ins and updates to the file are created. The status of the dataset is raised from 10 to 20.
