Hold and Release Held Manufacturing Order

This document explains how you can temporarily stop almost all of the transactions on a manufacturing order (MO). The document also explains how you release the order after it has been held.

Outcome

All open operations on the MO have been put on hold, which means that, with the exception of reporting receipt of goods, it is not possible to report transactions on the MO.

You have selected whether the held MO should be displayed in the display load and dispatch list programs.

For the long-term held MO, the work center load and material requirements have been removed from the work center schedule and material plan .

The second digit in the status of a short-term held MO is set to 5. On a long-term held MO it is set to 6. For example, if the original status was 20, the short-term held MO has status 25, the long-term held MO 26.

When you release a held MO, you have to replan it in 'Manufact Order. Reschedule' (PMS010). When this in done, the original MO status is restored and the material plan with all material requirements and loads is updated.

The information is stored together with information about the MO's header in the MWOHED file.

The need for holding a manufacturing order for the short or long term can occur when, for example, a machine breaks down or there is a material shortage or problems with material quality.

Before you start

Manufacturing orders must exist and must have statuses between 20 and 80.

Follow These Steps

  1. Start 'Manufact Order. Open' (PMS100/B).

You can also choose 'Work Center Schedule. Open' (PMS230).

  2. Specify the work center and mark the manufacturing order you want to hold/release.

  3. Perform one of these tasks:

    • To hold a manufacturing order for the short or long term, follow steps 4-5.
    • To release held manufacturing order, follow steps 6-8.
  4. For short term with option 85=Short-term hold, proceed as described below.

In 'Manufact Order. Reschedule' (PMS010/E), check and, if necessary, change these fields:

    • Order quantity
    • Priority
    • Start date or finish date
    • Start time or finish time.

Option 86 may not be used on an order-initiated MO.

All material requirements and work center loads will be removed from the MO. The material plan will be updated.

  5. For long term with option 86=Long-term hold, proceed as described below.

    • Press Enter to exit.
    • The manufacturing order's status will have 2 as the second digit while the system is working. Then the order's status has 5 (short-term hold) or 6 (long-term hold) as the second digit until you release the order.
  6. Select option 80=Release held MO to release a manufacturing order.

  7. In 'Manufact Order. Reschedule' (PMS010/E), check and, if necessary, change these fields:

    • Order quantity
    • Priority
    • Start date or finish date
    • Start time or finish time.
  8. Press Enter to finish.

The order's status will have 2 as the second digit while the system is working. Then the order will have the same status it had before it was held.

The material plan with all material requirements and loads will be updated
