Check Tools Availability and Allocate Tools against a Work Order

This instruction explains how to make sure that the tool requirements for a work order are available.

The instruction also contains a description of how to allocate the required tool.

Use the instruction when you want to make sure the job won't be stopped due to tool shortages.

You will get information about the current and projected tool availability. If applicable, tools will be allocated.

Before you start

Follow These Steps

  1. Start 'Work Schedule. Open Toolbox' (MOS195/B).

  2. Select the work order operation and select option 'Check tool availability' to display 'Work Order. Open Tool Requirements' (MOS133).

  3. Select an appropriate sorting order and an availability type.

    The availability types that can be selected are:

    1 = Current on-hand balance

    2 = Projected on-hand balance

    3 = Available to promise

    4 = Allocable net.

  4. Specify whether only shortages should be displayed.

  5. Specify a range of operations and dates to limit the selection.

    It is a good idea to limit the selection when many tools are connected to the work order.

    According to the criteria above, the screen will display all work orders that are affected by tool shortages.

  6. Select option 5 in 'WO Operation. Open Operation Element' (MOS104) to display the material line details (optional).

  7. Select option 11 in 'Material Plan. Open' (MMS080) to display the tool material plan (optional).

    Allocate Tool

  8. Start 'Work Order. Open Tool Requirements' (MOS133).

    The program can be reached via the menu or via option 13='Tool Requirement' in 'Work Schedule. Open' (MOS130).

  9. Select an sorting order.

    The tool allocation status is visible in all views.

  10. Identify tool lines with status 22. These tools should be allocated. Also enter a serial number on the E panel if required.

    Two records exist in 'Material Plan. Open' (MMS081):

    • Tool issue, order category 641. The planning date is the same as the start date on the operation and the status equals the operation status.
    • Tool return, order category 651. The planning date is the same as the finish date on the operation and the status equals the status from the operation.
  11. Highlight the tool line in (MOS133) and select option 6=Print to allocate the tool.

    Printing will result in the following:

    • The status on the tool line is raised to 44 to indicate that the tool is allocated
    • The on-hand balance is affected with the number of allocated tools
    • The tool remains allocated until it is manually de-allocated.

    Note that printing is only possible if there is a tool available and if the operation's status is less than 90.

    Tool requirement lines that are not going to be used, must be manually deleted in (MOS133).

    The change in the balance ID can be seen in 'Balance Identity. Display' (MMS060).
