Prepare for Oracle installation

This chapter describes the steps needed to be done to provide default Oracle .profile.

This must be done on both the Application and Database servers (if applicable) before installation of the Oracle software.

Prepare for Oracle installation

  1. Logon as user oracle.
  2. Modify /u01/app/oracle/.profile.
  3. Append the following lines to the .profile

    Oracle 11g:

    export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_SWEDEN.AL32UTF8
    export EDITOR=vi
    export ORACLE_HOME=${ORACLE_BASE}/product/11
    export LIBPATH=${ORACLE_HOME}/lib:${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32:/usr/lib:.
    export ORA_NLS33=$ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data
    PATH=$PATH:${ORACLE_HOME}/OPatch:${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/etc:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/local/bin:.
    export PATH 
    

    Oracle 12c:

    export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_SWEDEN.AL32UTF8
    export EDITOR=vi
    export ORACLE_HOME=${ORACLE_BASE}/product/12
    export LIBPATH=${ORACLE_HOME}/lib:${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32:/usr/lib:.
    export ORA_NLS33=$ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data
    PATH=$PATH:${ORACLE_HOME}/OPatch:${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/etc:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/local/bin:.
    export PATH
  4. Execute .profile, by running the following command:
    $ . .profile
