The most optimized way would be if each folder also were its own file system. Because theory and practice is not the same, here is a description of how to do it if the system does not have "correct" number of disks:
Group the physical disks by the number of disks that you have and by the form of redundancy you are going to use. The size of the database that will be installed is of course important for the disk grouping.
The optimized solution (an assumption) from a performance point of view is perhaps if each file system consist of greater than or equal to three striped disks that also was mirrored. However, it means that you should need 30 number of disks. Very few systems will look like this. The minimum number of disks that will be needed if every folder should be its own file system and the demand of redundancy is fulfilled, are 10. None of these solutions can manage the "optimized solution", so it must be solved in another way. The solution must be that you let one or several folders share one file system.
When the grouping is ready and the file system is created you must mount the file system. Use the mount point called i.e /tank .
When the file system are mounted you must create the /tank/u0[2-5] directories.
# mkdir /tank/u02
# mkdir /tank/u03
# mkdir /tank/u04
# mkdir /tank/u05
# chown oracle:dba /tank/u0[2-5]
# chmod 755 /tank/u0[2-5]
Finally create the soft links. The procedure is illustrated below:
# cd /
# ln –s /tank/u02 /u02
# ln –s /tank/u03 /u03
We can see the /u02 - /u05 folders, but we can also see that they are linked to the /db_tank file system.
# ls –la /
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Nov 4 08:33 u02 -> /tank/u02
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Nov 4 08:33 u03 -> /tank/u03

and in /db_tank we can see the u0[2-5] directories
