Employee Safety

On the Employee Safety tab, you can report and track safety‑related records, including observations, incidents, investigations, and safe behaviors. These records support the identification, evaluation, and resolution of safety and near‑miss events in the workplace.

You can view and manage observations you reported, respond to input requests during evaluation, and investigate records assigned to you. If an observation is generated into an incident, you may be assigned follow‑up tasks to help address its cause. You can also create safe behavior records to recognize actions that promote workplace safety, and view safe behavior records others create about you.

Observations

An observation is a report of a safety or a near-miss event that you witness. When an observation is reported, the safety administrator or facility-safety manager must evaluate it and either generate it into an incident or close it.

The Safety Observations shows observations that you have reported. You can edit records that are in New status. If a record has been promoted beyond New status, you can edit it only if you have been assigned to investigate it. You can also use the Safety Observations to find observations for which your input is requested. An investigator may ask you to complete an input request during the process of determining whether an observation should generate an incident.

Incidents

An incident is an observation record that has been generated as a safety incident or a near-miss incident. Incidents contain information about employees and non-employees who were injured or impacted by an incident. The information in an incident record is used for OSHA reports and for other non-regulatory reports.

As an employee, you might be assigned to perform follow-up tasks to address the cause of an incident.

Investigations

When you are assigned to investigate an observation, a notification is sent to you. The investigation log lists all safety records that have been assigned to you to investigate.

Employee safe behaviors

A safe behavior record is an action or practice that promotes safety in the workplace and that was witnessed by another person. As an employee, you can create a safe behavior record for another employee. You cannot create one for yourself.

Safe behavior records that others create about you can become part of your performance review.
