Key and critical positions

Succession pools and successors apply to those positions that are identified as being key or critical. A position can be identified as key, or critical, or both.

• A key position is required for your organization's ability to function effectively, such as the company president.
• A critical position must be monitored because of an impending succession impact.

  For example, a resource may be retiring soon and their position must be filled.
