OSHA establishments
For reporting purposes, OSHA requires your organization to set up an establishment record. An establishment is a single physical location where business is conducted or where services or operations are performed. Each business activity that is performed at a single location is treated as a separate establishment.
You can assign the Employer Identification Number (EIN) to associate it with an establishment. Doing so improves compliance with OSHA regulations, as it causes the EIN to be displayed on several OSHA reports.
An establishment must be set up with a SIC or a NAICS code, a country code, the establishment’s main address, and location(s).
An establishment may have one or more locations. One report may be created for an establishment that has separate locations if the activities are the same for each location. For example, a company owns health clinics in separate areas of one city. One physical location may also belong to separate establishments. For example, one company’s building in downtown St. Paul may have a service for manufacturing medicines and a health services division. These are treated as two separate establishments because they have independent industry descriptions.
