Creating or updating a resource's allowance pay rate

Allowances are cash, noncash, or in-kind compensation assigned to a resource in addition to the base pay. Examples include housing allowance (cash), discount on day care (noncash), company car (in kind). They differ from other kinds of other pay in that they are not necessarily paid on each payroll cycle and may not be taxable.

  1. Select Administrator > Resources > Resources.
  2. Open the resource to update.
  3. Click the Compensation tab.
  4. Click Create in the Allowances panel.

    Open the row for the allowance whose pay rate must be updated.

  5. Specify this information:
    Effective Date

    Required. Specify the effective date.

    Type

    Select the allowance type.

    Amount

    If it is an amount, specify the amount and currency code.

    Percent

    If it is a percent of the base salary, specify the percentage.

    Begin Date

    Specify the date on which the allowance begins to be paid.

    End Date

    Specify the date on which the allowance stops being paid.

    Pay Code

    Select the pay code to be used for the allowance in the payroll system.

    Pay Frequency

    If the allowance is not paid on the same frequency as the base salary, select the frequency on which the allowance is paid.

    Include in Total Pay Rate

    Select this check box to include the allowance in the total pay rate calculation for the resource.

    Information Only

    Select this check box to exclude the allowance from all calculated rates.

    Display In Contract

    Select this check box if this allowance should display in the employment contract.

    Organization Unit

    Select the organization unit for which the allowance is valid. This means that only work assignments for this organization are eligible for the allowance.

    Position

    Select the position for which the allowance is valid. This means that only work assignments for this position are eligible for the allowance.

    Location

    Select the location for which the allowance is valid. This means that only work assignments for this location are eligible for the allowance.

  6. Click Save.
