Competency model section calculation: weight specified at the section level
Weights can be specified at the section level or at the competency group level. If you specify a weight at the section level, competency groups are ignored and the calculations are the same as for position section calculations.
- Each skill or competency score is divided by the number of levels in the rating scale.
- Resulting scores for skills or competencies within the competency model are added together. Then they are divided by the number of skills or competencies in the competency model.
- The result is multiplied by the number of levels on the overall rating scale. The result is displayed on the appraisal summary in text and graph, on the same rating scale as the overall rating scale,
Example
Score | Skill scale | Percent calculation | |
---|---|---|---|
Competency group 1 | |||
Skill 1 | 1 | 4 | 1/4=0.250000 |
Skill 2 | 5 | 6 | 5/6=0.833333 |
Competency group 2 | |||
Skill 3 | 3 | 5 | 3/5=0.600000 |
Skill 4 | 3 | 6 | 3/6=0.500000 |
Competency model section non-weighted percent calculation |
((0.250000+0.833333+0.600000+0.500000)/4) Total = 0.545 (54.5%) |

Section non-weighted score based on an overall rating scale with 5 levels | 0.545*5 = 2.73 |
