Appraisal criteria

Appraisal criteria are the performance criteria that appraisers are asked to rate. Appraisal forms can contain multiple criteria sections.

Criteria sections can retrieve appraisal criteria from a position, a competency model, or user-defined criteria included in a user-defined criteria group.

  • A position

For a criteria section using the resource's position as a source for an appraisal form, select one of these position components as measurement criteria:

    • The descriptions of the competencies and skills that are associated with the position
    • The behaviors of the competencies and skills that are associated with the position
    • The responsibilities that are associated with the position
    • The duties that are associated with the position

For competencies and skills, the rating scale that is used is the rating scale that is defined for each competency or skill. For responsibilities or duties, select the rating scale when you define the criteria section.

Note: Competencies, skills, responsibilities, and duties must be defined with the Appraisal Criteria option selected to be imported into the appraisal section. Competencies and skills must also include a rating scale.
  • A competency model

If all resources using one appraisal form must have the same set of competencies and skills, create a competency model containing these competencies and skills. Define a criteria section for the competency model.

For a criteria section using a competency model as a source for an appraisal form, select one of these components as measurement criteria:

    • The descriptions of the competencies and skills that are associated with the competency model
    • The behaviors of the competencies and skills that are associated with the competency model

A criteria section using a competency model as a source for an appraisal form imports competencies or behaviors. These competencies or behaviors are associated with the competency model's competencies and skills. The rating scale that is used is the rating scale that is defined for each competency or skill.

Note: Competencies and skills must be defined with the Appraisal Criteria option selected and contain a rating scale to be imported into an appraisal section.
  • User-defined criteria included in a user-defined criteria group

A criteria section using a user-defined criteria group as a source for an appraisal form imports the criteria group's criteria.

Select the rating scale for user-defined criteria when you define the criteria section.

    Note:
    • When criteria is defined with Yes or No answers, the appraiser can respond with Yes or No answers. Appraisal calculations only include criteria rated with a rating scale.
    • An appraisal form can include criteria sections that use all three sources. The appraisal can also include more than one criteria section for the same source. For example, you can rate a resource on both the skills and qualifications and the responsibilities that are associated with their position. Or, you can include more than one competency model or more than one criteria group in the appraisal.
