What is the difference between time off and compensatory time off?

Compensatory time off, also known as compensation time is earned by employees not eligible for overtime or for excess hours worked over a scheduled amount. If your organization offers compensation time, employees can submit requests for compensatory time off instead of additional pay for extra hours worked. After these requests are approved, the hours are added to their designated plan. The time is then available to the employee to be taken as time off.
