Positions
Jobs and positions are closely related, but they are not the same. Positions are specific instances of a job within the organization. For example, your organization may have a generic job called nurse. The job of nurse is used for several positions, including obstetrics nurse and ER nurse.
Jobs are the building blocks for positions. When you create jobs, you lay the groundwork for your organization to create specific positions that can be assigned to resources. Every job must be associated with at least one position.
Within Infor HR Talent, when a position is created, its definition includes a job. When an organization assigns work to a resource, the organization assigns the resource to a position and therefore also to that position's job. When the recruiter creates a Talent Acquisition requisition, the recruiter assigns a position to the requisition.
If your organization uses a one-to-one correspondence between a job and a position, you can set the organization's Auto Create Positions From Job field to Yes. This automatically creates a synchronized position when you create a job.
A position automatically inherits the set of qualifications that are defined for the positions job. The position can be defined with qualifications that are specific to this position. You can define position qualifications that:
- Are not defined for the positions job.
- Are defined for the position's job, but the position has different attributes. That is, the qualification is not essential for the job, but it is essential for the position.
Position attributes
These are the ways in which attributes of a position are shared with other objects such as work assignments or manager codes:
- When a work assignment or requisition is created, it can inherit attributes of the position. This depend on the way in which you define the field default rules for your organization's position. This inheritance occurs when the work assignment or requisition is created or when a work assignment or requisition is updated to a new position.
- When a position is synchronized to a manager and you change the position's
name, description, or active status, the changes are automatically applied to the manager
code. This application continues as long as the two are synchronized.
