COBRA eligibility dates

The eligibility date is the date when an individual is qualified to enroll into the benefit plan. These are the major considerations concerning eligibility dates:

• The COBRA eligibility date for the individual is determined by the Loss of Coverage Date for the Employee benefit. That date is either the date you stopped the benefit or is determined by the termination rules that are defined for the plan.

• An individual cannot enroll in a benefit plan that has a start date that is prior to their eligibility date.

• The individual's eligibility date is on or after the benefit plan start date.
