Creating benefits reasons

Use this procedure to define benefits reason codes. Benefit reasons codes are used for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance to track reasons for changes to a benefit enrollment. These changes can come from the enrollment, Employee, or WorkAssignment.

Examples of benefit reasons are: Adoption, Promotion, Death, Divorce, Job Transfer, etc.

  1. Select Benefits > Set Up > Reasons.
  2. Click Create, and specify this information:
    Benefit Reason
Specify a name for the benefit reason.
    Description
Specify a description for the benefit reason.
    HIPAA Reason
    Select the corresponding HIPAA reason.
  3. Click Save.

The Action Reason section is displayed after saving the benefit reason.

  4. To add action reasons to a benefit reason, select it and click Open.

The Business Subject and Action Reason are the subject and reason that are used on the employee work assignment when making a change to the employee's information. These are the reasons that must be mapped to the HIPAA reason.
