Finalizing the benefits of COBRA participants

You must finalize the COBRA participant's benefits before it is processed.

After a COBRA-eligible life event is finalized for an employee, the benefits administrator must finalize the employee's benefits.

These are the features of a COBRA-eligible life event:
  • A COBRA occurrence type
  • A COBRA enrollment event in the system
  • A COBRA participant that is created
The COBRA occurrence and benefit enrollment records are created when the COBRA event is selected for the life event.
These situations are defined as COBRA occurrences:
  • Termination of an employee
  • Reduction of an employee's work hours
  • Divorce
  • Open enrollment

  1. Select Benefits > Maintenance > COBRA Participants > By COBRA Participants.
  2. Select the COBRA participant.
  3. Click the Enrollment Events tab.
  4. Select the plans for all benefits that are available to the COBRA participant.
  5. Click Submit.
  6. Click Finalize.
