Flex periods
A flex period is a time during which a particular combination of an employee's flex benefits are in effect during a flex plan year.
Upon initial enrollment into the flex year, one flex period is created for the entire flex plan year for an employee. Each time you add or stop benefits for an employee during the flex year, another flex period is created.
Example
Employee Lynn Johnson is enrolled in the current flex plan with a flex benefit period of January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
On April 1, 2019, her health coverage changes due to a family status change. This table shows her flex period dates after the change:
Start Date | Stop Date |
---|---|
January 1, 2019 | March 31, 2019 |
April 1, 2019 | December 31, 2019 |
Further into the flex year, Lynn Johnson's dental benefit has a change effective July 1, 2019. The dental benefit was not stopped and restarted at the same time as the health benefit, so a change on the dental benefit is required in order to reflect the flex period of 04/01/19 - 12/31/19. Then the new start date of 07/01/19 for the dental benefit can be entered creating another flex period of 07/01/19 - 12/31/19.
