Talent pools

A talent pool is a group of resources that share a common criteria or functional area. Although a succession pool is defined for a specific position, a talent pool is not tied to a position. Instead, resources are grouped based on your specific criterion. Examples are a talent pool of resources who have sales management experience, or who have a specific credential. To add resources to a talent pool: use one of these options:

  • Use a Succession Plan directly from Manage Resources
  • Use Career Path directly from Manage Resources
  • Set up an automatic process

Any resource who is added to a talent pool is added as proposed or confirmed.

When a talent pool is created, select the Qualifications tab to specify the competencies, skills, education, and credentials that define the talent pool. Talent pools are listed in the Used by section for the competency model, competency group, competency, or skill in Competency Management.

On a Succession Plan, a generalist can view all resources in a talent pool. They can sort those resources by readiness or percent fit to the talent pool. They can view a resource's talent profile, succession profile, or development plan. The generalist can copy resources from a talent pool to a succession pool.

Talent pools can be created using eligibility groups, although it is not required. For example, you can create an eligibility group that contains all of the resources in a particular business unit. When the Automatically Add to Pool action is run, the resources that are in the group are evaluated for adding to the talent pool.
