Competency model section calculation: weight specified at the competency group level

Weights can be specified either at the section level or at the competency group level. If you specify a weight at the competency group level, each competency group is treated as its own section.

Use this procedure for each competency group:

  1. Each skill or competency score is calculated with this formula to form the equivalent level against the overall rating scale levels:
    Normalized Score = (1 + ((Score - 1) * (Overall Rating Scale Levels - 1)) / (Rating Scale Levels - 1))
  2. Resulting scores of skills or competency in a competency group are added together. They are then divided by the number of skills or competencies in a competency group.
  3. Resulting scores for each competency group are then multiplied by its weight. Results for competency groups are added and then divided by the total weights.
  4. The resulting score is the section score for the competency model. The score is displayed on the appraisal summary, in text and graph.

Example

Competency Group 1 Weight = 30
Score Rating scale Linear score Weighted criteria score
Competency 1 2 6

= (1+((2-1) * (5-1)) / (6-1))

= 1.8

Competency 2 3 5

= (1+((3-1) * (5-1)) / (5-1))

= 3

Competency 3 5 6

= (1+((5-1) * (5-1)) / (6-1))

= 4.2

= 3 * 30%

= 0.9

Competency group non-weighted score

= (1.8 + 3 + 4.2) / 3

= 3

Competency Group 2 Weight 20
Score Rating scale Linear score Weighted criteria score
Competency 4 6 6

= (1+((6-1) * (5-1)) / (6-1))

= 5.0

Competency 5 5 6

= (1+((5-1) * (5-1)) / (6-1))

= 4.2

Competency 6 4 5

= (1+((4-1) * (5-1)) / (5-1))

= 4

Competency 7 3 6

= (1+((3-1) * (5-1)) / (6-1))

= 2.6

= 3.95 * 20%

= 0.79

Competency group non-weighted score

= (5 + 4.2 + 4 + 2.6) / 4

Competency model section score

= 3.95

Total weight 50%
Competency model score = (0.9 + 0.79) / 50%
= 3.38
