Assigning weight to form sections

Assign a weight to any rated section, such as criteria, goal, or third party, to include in the overall calculations. Weighting sections make it possible to weigh the overall score according to the importance of the criteria.

See Weighting considerations

  1. Select Administrator > Performance > Appraisal Forms.
  2. On the Forms tab, open the appraisal form.
  3. On the Form Sections tab, open a criteria, goal, or third party section to assign a weight.
  4. In the Weight field, specify the weight. For example, if the weight is 15%, type 15.
Note: For all rated sections to have the same weight, specify the same weight for each section. Do not leave the weight field blank unless you do not want the section included in the calculations.
  5. Click Save.

Weighting considerations

  • Only rated sections, such as criteria, goals, and third-party sections, can be weighted.
  • If the Must Equal 100% check box is selected on the organization configuration form, the total weights of all sections must be 100%. A warning is displayed if this condition is not met. If this option is not selected, the total weight does not have to equal 100%.
  • Sections that are not weighted are considered to have a zero (0) weight and are consequently ignored in the overall rate calculations.
  • For a criteria section that is based on a competency model, specify a weight. The weight can be specified for each competency group in the competency model or for the competency model section.

If you select weights for each competency group, each competency group is treated as a separate section.

  • For a criteria section that is based on a position and weighted responsibilities, the section goal and responsibility weights are the defaults from the position. You can change the section weight and the responsibility weights on the appraisal form. See Adjusting responsibility weights.
  • User-defined criteria with response types other than Rating Scale are ignored in the calculations.
  • The overall rate calculations accommodate multiple rating scales by reducing each criteria or goal score to a percentage. This percentage can then be weighted and converted to the overall rating score. See Performance appraisal score calculation.
