Competency model section calculation: weight specified at the competency group level

Weights can be specified at the section level or at the competency group level. If you specify weight at the competency group level, each competency group is calculated based on the corresponding weight that is specified.

Use this procedure for each competency group:

  1. Each skill or competency score is divided by the number of levels in the rating scale.
  2. Resulting scores of skills or competencies in a competency group are added together. They are then divided by the number of skills or competencies in a competency group.
  3. Resulting scores for each competency group is then multiplied by its weight. Results for competency groups are added and then divided by the total weights.
  4. The result is multiplied by the number of levels on the overall rating scale. The result is displayed on the appraisal summary, in text and graph, on the same rating scale as the overall rating scale,

Example

Competency Group 1 Weight = 30
Score Rating scale Weight Competency weighted score Total competency group weight
Competency 1 2 6 30/3=10 2/6*10= 3.3333333
Competency 2 3 5 30/3=10 3/5*10=6
Competency 3 5 6 30/3=10 5/6*10=8.3333333
10+10+10=30
Competency Group non-weighted percent calculation

(3.33333333+6+8.3333333)/30

Total = 0.5889 (or 58.89%)

Competency group non-weighted score based on an overall rating scale with 5 levels

0.58888887*5 = 2.94

Competency Group 2 Weight = 20
Score Rating scale Weight Competency weighted score Total competency group weight
Competency 4 6 6 20/4=5 6/6*5=5
Competency 5 5 6 20/4=5 5/6*5=4.16666677
Competency 6 4 5 20/4=5 4/5*5=4
Competency 7 3 6 20/4=5 3/6*5= 2.5
5+5+5+5=20
Competency Group non-weighted percent calculation

(5+4.1666667+4+2.5)/20

Total = 0.7833 (or 78.33%)

Competency group non-weighted score based on an overall rating scale with 5 levels

0.783333333*5 = 3.92
