Resource talent profile update

You can configure the appraisal section for a position or competency model to automatically update or update and validate a resource's talent profile. You can do this when the resource's performance appraisal that includes this section has gone through final acknowledgment.

If you select either option, the competencies and skills included in the section are created or updated in the resource's talent profile.

Competency does not exist in the resource's talent profile

  • The competency is created in the resource's talent profile. The performance appraisal final acknowledgment date is displayed in the Date Acquired field. The rating level that is assigned by the manager in the performance appraisal is displayed in the Rating Level field.

  • In the audit log, the employee appraisal key appears in the EmployeeAppraisal field.

  • If the HR Talent option is Update And Validate, the competency is checked as Validated and the Validation Date is the same as the Date Acquired Date.

Skill does not exist in the resource's talent profile

  • The skill is created in the resource's talent profile. The final acknowledgment date of the performance appraisal is displayed in the Date Acquired field. The rating level that is assigned by the manager in the performance appraisal is displayed in the Rating Level field.

  • The Most Recent Renewal Date value is populated with the Date Acquired value, and the expiration date is calculated by the system, using the skill's renewal cycle.

  • In the audit log, the employee appraisal key appears in the EmployeeAppraisal field.

  • If the HR Talent option is Update And Validate, the skill is checked as Validated and the Validation Date is the same as the Date Acquired Date.

A competency already exists in the resource's talent profile

  • The competency is updated in the resource's talent profile. The final acknowledgment date of the performance appraisal is the effective date. The rating level that is assigned by the manager in the performance appraisal is displayed in the Rating Level field.

    Note: Date Acquired is not updated.
  • In the audit log, the employee appraisal key appears in the EmployeeAppraisal field. The EmployeeChecklist field is blank.

  • If the HR Talent option is Update And Validate, the competency is checked as Validated and the Validation Date is the appraisal final acknowledgment date.

A skill already exists in the resource's talent profile

The skill is updated or renewed, depending on the current status of the skill and the renewal rules that are defined for the skill.

  • If the skill is defined to use the Maintain Renewal Dates If Within These Thresholds option and the resource appraisal is completed within the defined thresholds, the skill is renewed. The effective date is equal to the resource appraisal final acknowledgment date. The Most Recent Renewal Date is updated with the previous Next Renewal date. The new Expiration and Next Renewal dates are calculated by the system based on the renewal cycle.

    In addition, the rating level is updated with the appraisal rating. If the HR Talent option is Update And Validate, the competency is checked as Validated and the Validation Date is the resource appraisal final acknowledgment date.

    In the audit log, the employee appraisal key appears in the EmployeeAppraisal field. The EmployeeChecklist field is blank.

  • The skill is updated if the skill is not defined to use the Maintain Renewal Dates If Within These Thresholds option. The skill is also updated if the resource appraisal is not completed within the defined thresholds.

    The Effective Date, Date Acquired, and Most Recent Renewal Date are populated with the resource appraisal final acknowledgment date. If a renewal cycle exists, an expiration date is calculated by the system. If a renewal cycle does not exist, the skill does not have an expiration date.

    In the audit log, the employee appraisal key appears in the EmployeeAppraisal field. The EmployeeChecklist field is blank.

    In addition, the rating level is updated with the appraisal rating. If the HR Talent option is Update And Validate, the competency is checked as Validated and the Validation Date is the appraisal final acknowledgment date.

Skill renewal and update examples

An employee has three skills.

  • Skill ABC has a three-year renewal cycle and Maintain Renewal Dates of 30 days before and 30 days after the expiration date. Before the employee's supervisor completes the performance appraisal the most recent renewal date is set at June 1, 2009; the expiration date is set at May 31, 2012.

    The performance appraisal is completed on June 15, 2012, which is within the defined threshold range (May 1, 2012 to June 30, 2012).

    After completion of the performance appraisal, the skill is renewed. The most recent renewal date is June 1, 2012 and the expiration date is May 31, 2015.

  • Skill DEF has a one-year renewal cycle and Maintain Renewal Dates of 10 days before and 10 days after the expiration date. Before the employee's supervisor completes the performance appraisal, the most recent renewal date is set at June 1, 2011. The expiration date is set at May 31, 2012.

    The performance appraisal is completed on June 15, 2012, which is after the defined threshold range of May 21, 2012 to June 10, 2012.

    After completion of the performance appraisal, the skill is updated. The most recent renewal date is June 15, 2012 and the expiration date is June 14, 2013.

  • Skill GHI does not have a renewal cycle. Before the employee's supervisor completes the performance appraisal, the most recent renewal date is set at June 1, 2012. The expiration date is set at May 31, 2012.

    After completion of the performance appraisal, the skill is updated with a most recent renewal date of June 15, 2012 and a blank expiration date.
