Action plan approval process

  1. The employee creates the action plan for the first period.
    • If the employee is the goal initiator, the employee can create the action plan when the goal is pending (Draft or Awaiting Approval) or when it is approved (Active). The manager will only be able to see the action plan for a pending goal when the employee submits the goal for approval. If an action plan schedule does not exist (action plan allowed, but not required), either the employee or the manager can use the Create Action Plan action to create the schedule. But only the employee can create and update the action plan.

    • If the manager is the goal initiator, the resource will only be able to add an action plan when the manager submits the goal for acceptance or when it becomes active. If a schedule does not exist (action plan allowed, but not required), either the employee or the manager can use the Create Action Plan action to create the schedule. But only the employee can create and update the action plan.

    • If the action plans require approval, there is only one action to submit all action plans for the same goal year and period. So the employee must complete all the action plans for the same year and period before submitting them for approval.

Note: If the action plan for a resource goal does not require approval, the action plan is automatically approved.
    • Each action plan period can have multiple steps, and the employee can reorder the steps if needed.

  2. If the action plans require approval, the employee uses the Submit Action Plans action to request approval for all the action plans that require approval for a specific goal year and period. If configured, the manager will receive a notification that action plans have been submitted.
  3. A manager can review action plans but not modify them. If action plans require a manager's approval, the manager must approve or reject all the action plans for the same goal year and period together. If the manager selects Reject Action Plans, a comment is required that will get copied to all the rejected action plans.
  4. The employee can modify and resubmit rejected action plans. Approved action plans can still be updated.
  5. When an action plan for the next goal year and period comes due, the employee can copy the current action plan period to the next one and modify it.
