Approving or rejecting action plans on behalf of a manager (administrator)

Managers will typically approve or rejects their staff' action plans. However, administrators can perform this action on a manager's behalf.

Note:

Approving action plans is a one-time action for a goal year and period. So you should make sure all the resource's action plans for the year and period have been defined before you approve them. After you have approved all the resource's action plans for a year and period, any goals created subsequently for that same year will have their action plans created in Approved status, whether or not the goal type requires approval.

  1. Access Administrator > Goals > Resource Goals.
  2. Select the resource for whom you want to submit action plans.
  3. On the Resources panel, click Action Plans.
  4. On the Action Plans form, filter on the goal year and period that you want to review.

All the action plans for the goal year and period display. Because the goal type of a goal determines whether the action plan requires approval, you may see action plans defined for a different goal type for the same goal year and period that are already in Approved status. The action plans that you need to review are in Submitted status.

  5. Review the action plans that need approval.
  6. If you are not satisfied with all the action plans, or you think more action plans may still need to be submitted for the goal year and period, reject the action plans.
    1. Select one of the Submitted action plans and click Reject Action Plans.
    2. Use the following guidelines to enter field values:
      Goal Year

Required. The goal year for which you want to reject action plans

      Period

Required. The goal year period for which you want to reject action plans.

      Comments

Required. Type the reason for rejecting the action plans.

    3. Click OK.

The action plan status changes from Submitted to Draft. A yellow alert indicates that the action plans have been rejected by the manager. The same alert displays on the employee's Action Plans view. The comments appear on all views of all action plans. The administrator's name appears as the owner of the comments.

If notifications are configured, the employee will receive a notification.

The employee can make modifications and resubmit the action plans.

  7. If you are satisfied with all the action plans, select one of the Submitted action plans and click Approve Action Plans.

The status of all the action plans changes to Approved on all action plan views.

    Note:

This action is irreversible. However, the employee can still make changes to the action plans.
