Creating organization units

Use this procedure to create organization units for your organization. You can create organization units by creating a new unit or by copying an existing unit. Each organizational unit must specify the unit to which it reports. This defines the unit's place within the structure. Each organizational unit can report to only one other unit in the structure.

Note: Your organization has at least one existing organization unit because the top level organization unit is automatically added when you created your organization unit.
  1. Select Administrator > Set Up > Structure > Organization Units. Click the Structure tab.
Note: You can also create an organization unit on the Organization Units tab. Then you must remember which organization unit to specify in the Reports To Organization Unit field.
  2. On the Structure tab, select the organization under which you want to create an organization unit.
  3. Select Create > Create Within, and specify this information:
    Effective Date
Select the date on which this organization unit becomes effective and available for use.
    Organization Unit
    A number is automatically assigned.
    Short Description/Description
Specify a description for the organization unit.
  4. On the Detail tab, specify this information:

For example, if this organization unit is for roll up reporting and work assignments should not be directly associated with it, do not select this check box.

Note: If you do not select this check box, you cannot specify values in these default work assignment fields since this organization unit will not be associated with work assignments.
