Performance indicators and proficiencies

Performance indicators and proficiencies are descriptions that can be attached to a competency or skill. They are designed to be used in performance appraisals.

  • Performance indicators describe what a resource must do to demonstrate that competency or skill. This list contains examples of performance indicators for a competency named COMMUNICATION:
    • Relates well to all types of people: up, down, and sideways, inside and outside the organization
    • Is effective in a variety of presentation settings: one-to-one, small and large groups, with peers, direct reports and bosses
    • Invites open dialogue and candid discussions
  • Proficiencies are descriptions of rating levels in the context of a specific competency or skill.

Proficiencies can be used only if a competency or skill is associated with a rating scale.
