Creating rating scales

Create rating scales before you create competencies or skills.

  1. Select Administrator > Set Up > Rating Scales.
  2. Click Create, and specify this information:
    Effective Date
    Select the effective date.
    Rating Scale
    Specify the rating scale name.

    If you do not specify a description, the rating scale name is used as the description.

    Use for Employee Goals
    Select this check box if this scale should be used for a resource's goals. Multiple rating scales can have this check box selected within an organization.
    Goal Eligibility Group
    If you select the Use For Employee Goals check box, you can also select an eligibility group. For information about how the goal eligibility group works, see the Goal Management User Guide.
    Levels
    Specify the number of levels, that is, the number of ratings, for the rating scale.
    Active
    Select this check box to make the rating scale active. The rating scale is active by default. If do not want the rating scale to be selectable), clear the check box.
  3. Click Save.
    A detail section is opened with a line for each rating level.
  4. Specify a label for each header, and click Save.
  5. If the rating scale can be used for performance appraisals, you can specify a score range for each rating level.

  6. If the rating scale can be used for goals and if the organization is configured to enable external results as goals, a Goals tab is displayed.
