Relationship between job and position

In Infor HR Talent, when a position is created, its definition includes a job. Every job must be associated with at least one position. When you assign work to a resource, you assign the resource to a position and therefore also to that position's job. When you create a requisition in Talent Acquisition, you assign a position, not a job, to the requisition.

A position automatically inherits the set of qualifications that is defined for the position's job. The position can be defined with qualifications that are specific to this position. You can define position qualifications that:

  • Are not defined for the position's job.
  • Are defined for the position's job, but the position has different attributes. That is, the qualification is not essential for the job, but it is essential for the position.

Jobs and positions are related in one of these ways:

  • A job can be synchronized to a single position. For example, a NURSE job can be synchronized with a NURSE position. When a job and position are synchronized, the job's active status, short description, and description are identical to those of the position on which it is used. When these fields are changed on the job, they are changed also on the position and everywhere the position is used. This includes work assignments and job requisitions.
Note: These are the only fields that are synchronized.

You synchronize jobs and positions if your organization is not required to define many positions with specific characteristics for the same job.

    See Automatic job-position synchronization.

  • If a job is not synchronized to a position, then the job's active status, short description and description are not identical to those of the positions on which it is used. For example, a NURSE job can be used by an ERNURSE or OBNURSE position.
