Configurable fields

You can use country configurable fields to select country-specific fields to show on forms. These fields are displayed in the context of a resource's location.

For each country in which your organization operates or may operate in the future, you can select which configurable fields are displayed. These selections are implemented based on the country that is in the context of the operation that the user is performing.

By default, when an organization is created with a default country, a configuration record is automatically created for that country. The configuration record contains that country's default field selections. You can open the record and change the field selections.

When an organization is created, the ConfigurableFieldsInUse default record is created. This record contains all of the selected configurable fields for all countries that are configured. The record is updated each time a new country is added or an existing country is removed or updated.

The purpose of this record is to provide a default configuration when a country is not configured. For example, if a resource is located in Mexico and Mexico is not one of the configured countries, the ConfigurableFieldsInUse record is read to determine which fields to show. If both the US and France are configured, all of the fields that are selected for both configurations are displayed for this resource.

When adding a country for configuration, a list of all fields that are configurable for the country is displayed. Some fields may be preselected based on the country's known business practices. You can change the selections to fit your organization.

Prerequisite setup for country configurable fields

The country configuration feature uses the ISO country codes to identify the countries for which fields are configured. You must ensure that each country is defined with its corresponding ISO code. For example, FR for France, or US for the United States.

See Adding countries.

How the appropriate country is determined for a country-configurable field

  • For resource fields:
    • When a resource is created, the system checks whether the organization uses a country localization that shows the field. All configured fields for all configured countries are displayed.
    • After a resource is created, if a primary work assignment exists, the work assignment's location country is used. If no primary assignment exists, the resource's home country is used.
  • For work assignment fields, the resource's home country is first used when the work assignment is initially created, then the work assignment's location country is used.

What are configured fields displayed

Note: Configurations apply only to a subset of fields and actions that are unique to a country. The majority of fields and actions that are used in Infor HR Talent applications are common to all configurations and are displayed for all configurations.

Configured fields are displayed in context.

For example, if you have defined configurable fields for both the United States and France, this is the result:

  • On setup and update forms for the administrator, all of the fields are displayed for both configured features because the context is not yet established or the context can be changed. For example, when adding a resource, the resource's home country is unknown until the resource is created. So, all fields applicable to both configurations are available. There is no edit preventing you from specifying data in a non-applicable field.
  • Resources can see the configured fields in context. Resources with a primary work assignment location, or home location if no work assignment exists, in the United States see only the United States-specific fields. Resources with a primary work assignment location, or home location if no work assignment exists, in France see only the France-specific fields.
  • Managers can see data for their subordinates that is configured in context of the subordinates' location. Managers with a United States location see only France-configured fields for their subordinates who have a French location. They see only United States-configured fields for their subordinates who have a United States location.
