Absence management

If your organization uses Absence Management, then you can manage your time-off requests in the To Do or My Profile menu option.

Note: If your organization does not use Absence Management, then see Managing leaves of absence through work assignments.

A request for time off is generally for vacation and sick time. A leave of absence request is for an extended period of absence such as medical leave or parental leave. Check with your absence administrator if you require further clarification.

After you request time off, your leave must first be approved by the HR administrator. It is not displayed to your manager until after it is approved. Your manager can request a leave on your behalf. Your manager can also update or cancel your approved leave. You can update or cancel a leave that has been requested or approved. If your organization configured the capability, then absences can be canceled after the request has been processed.

If you or your manager cancels a leave, then it disappears from your view.

Statuses of a leave request

  • Requested - Indicates that the HR administrator is considering your request. Or, indicates that you or your manager updated an approved request, and the revised request now must be reconsidered.
  • Approved - Indicates that the HR administrator approved your leave. At this point the leave is displayed to your manager. If the administrator rejects your leave, then it disappears from your space.
  • On Leave - Indicates that your leave has begun and can no longer be updated by you or your manager. If your organization configured the capability, then absences can be canceled after the request has been processed.
  • Completed - Indicates that you have returned, and your manager or the HR administrator has updated the status of your leave. Depending on the nature of your leave, you may be asked to provide some documentation before you can return to work. You cannot update your leave. If your organization configured the capability, then absences can be canceled after the request has been processed.
