Accessing resource development plan information

A resource's development plan includes the resource's activities, checklists, mentors, personal development hours, and provides the ability to perform a fit analysis or model fit analysis on the resource.

  1. Select Development Planning > Resources > Development Plans.
  2. Open a resource's record to display the resource's development plan.
  3. Select the appropriate tab to view the information.
    Tab Description
Activities Select this tab to view the resource's active and historical activities. You can perform the same actions from this tab as from Development Planning > Resources > Resource Activities.
Checklists Select this tab to view the resource's active and historical checklists. You can perform the same actions on this tab as you could from Development Planning > Checklists.
Mentors Select this tab to view the resource's mentor, to assign a mentor to the resource, or to unassign an existing mentor. You cannot assign mentees from this form.
    Personal Development Hours

Select this tab to view the resource's personal development hours balance. You cannot perform any action on this tab.

Note: This tab displays only if personal development hours exist.
    Fit Analysis

Select this tab to calculate a percent fit for the resource's primary position or to model a percent fit for another position.

    • To calculate the percent fit for the resource's current position, click Calculate For.

    • To model the resource's percent fit for another position, click Model Fit Analysis, click New Model, select the Compare To position, indicate whether to compare only essential qualifications, and click OK.

The results of the analysis display.

    • At the top of the form, the position name appears with values for the Percent Fit and Percent Fit With Margin analyses.

    • A spider graph compares the skills and competencies of the resource with those of the position. The graph can also be displayed as a bar graph or a list.

Note: The graph is based on Percent Fit only.
    • For each type of qualification included in the percent fit calculation, a list of the qualifications included in the position displays with this information:

Note: Only the qualification types for which your organization configured percent fit calculations displays.
      • The Essential column displays whether the qualification is essential for the position.

      • For skills and competencies, the Level columns indicate the position's required competency level for the qualification (if any) and the resource's competency level for the qualification.

      • For credentials, the list only displays the credential required by the position. Credentials have no levels.

      • For education, the list displays the required education and the highest education level attained by the resource. Education attributes must be defined with a Level Equivalence to allow for level comparison.

      • The Gap column displays whether the resource matches (Match), does not match (Below), or Exceeds (Exceed) the requirements for the qualification when match margins are not taken into account, that is when the calculation looks for an absolute match.

For credentials, the Gap will be "Match" if the resource has the credential, or "Below" if the resource does not have the credential.

To calculate the Percent Fit value, the system divides the total number of qualifications in the Gap column that are a "Match" by the total number of qualifications. "Exceed" values are not considered a match.

      • The Gap With Margin column displays whether the resource matches (Match), does not match (Below), or Exceeds (Exceed) the requirements for the qualification when match margins are taken into account.

Match margins are a way for administrators to include as matched results that do not exactly match the position requirements. For example, assume the organization is configured to allow a match margin of one level below and one level higher than the required position level for skills. If a position requires a rating of 3 for a skill and a resource's level for that skill is 2, the Gap result will be "Below" and the Gap With Margin result will be "Match." If another resource has a level of 4, the Gap result will be "Exceed" and the Gap With Margin result will be "Match."

To calculate the Percent Fit with Margin value, the system divides the total number of qualifications in the Gap With Margin column that are a "Match" by the total number of qualifications. "Exceed" values are not considered a match. Therefore, in either of the above example, the Percent With Margin score will be higher than the Percent Fit score.

Note: For credentials, the Gap With Margin will display as a match if the "Include For Resources" organization setting is selected.
      • For qualifications that have a "Below" result in the Gap column, a Suggested Activities link indicates that there is a catalog activity with an outcome that would help the resource meet the qualification requirement. You can click the Suggested Activities link to view and print the suggested activities.

Note: The qualification types and match margins included in the calculations are defined at the organization level by the administrator. For the Calculate Fit action, the organization settings determine whether only essential qualifications are included. For the New Model action, you can include or exclude non-essential qualifications.
