Adding a skill component to a checklist

  1. On the Components tabs, select New > Create Skill Component.
  2. On the Create Skill Component form, specify this information:
    Skill
Required. Select the skill that resources assigned to this checklist must acquire.
Component Group, Create From Competency Category
Select a component group. If you select the Create From Skill Category check box, the system creates the skill's qualification category as a competency group and assigns it to the skill component.
    Copy From
If you want criteria for this component, you can select Behaviors to have the skill's behaviors default as criteria, or Attributes, to have the skill's attributes default as criteria. You will also be able to define criteria after the component is added.
    Attribute Type
If you selected Attributes in the Copy From field, you can select an attribute type in this field to default only the skill attributes that match this type as criteria.
    Required
If you want the resource to acknowledge the component when completed, select this check box.
    Managers, Require Same Competency
Select the Managers check box if you allow managers to validate this component. Select Require Same Skill if you allow managers to validate the component only if they are also validated for this skill.
Note: Either Managers or Mentors must be selected. You can select all three (Managers, Mentors, Peers)
    Mentors, Require Same Competency
Select the Mentors check box if you allow mentors to validate this component. Select Require Same Skill if you allow mentors to validate the component only if they are also validated for this skill.
Note: Managers or Mentors must be selected. You can select all three (Managers, Mentors, Peers)
    Peers
Select the Peers check box if you allow peers to validate this component. Peers are resources who are themselves validated for this skill.
Note: Peers cannot be the only validators. You must also select either Managers or Mentors (or both).
    Preferred Validation Method
Required. Select the preferred validation method.
Note: A component can have several validation methods, but only one can be preferred. After the component is saved, you will be able to add more validation methods and make another validation method Preferred.
  3. Click OK.
