Defining length of time rules

A length of service rule can be attached to rate progression rules for:

  • A length of time
  • A length of time or hours threshold
  • A length of time and hours threshold
  • A length of time and performance rating

A length of time rule determines the number of days, weeks semi-months, months, or years that a resource must work to progress to the next step.

  1. Select Compensation > Set Up > Step and Grade Schedules > Rate Progression Rules.
  2. On the Length Of Time tab, click Create.
  3. On the Length Of Time Rule form, specify this information:
    Effective Date

Specify the effective date for the rule.

    Length of Time Rule

Specify a short and long description for the rule.

    Count From Date

Specify the date from which the time is counted. This field determines how you specify your length of time thresholds. For example, if you select Last Step Change, you could have a length of time that applies to all steps. But if you select a fixed date, such as Start Date, you must define a length of time for each step. For example, 12 months for step 1, 24 months for step 2, and so on.

  4. Click Save.

The Length Of Time tab is displayed.

  5. On the Length Of Time tab, specify the length of time thresholds.

You can specify an hours threshold that applies to all steps, or an hours threshold for each step.

    1. Click Create.
    2. On the Length Of Time form, specify this information:
      Effective Date

Specify the effective date for the length of time threshold.

      Move From Step

Optionally, specify the step for which this length of time threshold is valid.

      Note:

If the length of time applies to all steps, then leave this field blank.

      Number of Units

Specify the number of days, weeks semi-months, months, or years. This is the amount of time that the resource must remain in the Move From Step before being eligible to move the next step.

      Unit Type

Select days, weeks, semi-months, months, or years.

    3. Click Save and New to save the length of time threshold and create a new one. If you have created all applicable length of time thresholds, then click Save.
