External metrics

Pay for external metrics also involves goals. These goals are measured outside of Infor HR Talent. They can be linked to revenue, business unit scores, customer satisfaction ratings, patient satisfaction ratings, and so on. These metrics are loaded separately. These tables are used for external metrics:

Numeric Step

This table type determines the payout based on a step system, where payout will be determined based on a range of attainment values such as revenue.

Target quota, threshold, and maximum are not used. Attainments are all numeric values. For example:

Attainment range Payout rate
From 10M to 14.9M 5%
From 15M to 16.9M 7%
From 17M to 19.9M 10%
From 20M 15%

An attainment of less than 10M results in no payout.

Alpha value

This table type determines the payout based on an exact alpha value, such as from a performance evaluation.

Target quota, threshold and maximum are not used. Attainments are all alpha values. For example:

Attainment Payout rate
Meets 5%
Exceeds 7%
Distinguished 10%

An attainment of Below results in no payout.

Numeric step with alpha value

This table combines the elements of the Numeric Step table and the Alphabetic Value table. The payout is be determined based on a range of numeric attainment values along with an alpha value. For example:

Numeric from Alpha Payout Rate
From 10M - 14.9M MEETS 5%
From 15M - 16.9M MEETS 6%
From 17M - 19.9M MEETS 7%
From 10M - 14.9M EXCEEDS 6%
From 15M - 16.9M EXCEEDS 7%
From 10M - 14.9M EXCEEDS 8%
From 15M - 16.9M DISTINGUISHED 7%
From 17M - 19.9M DISTINGUISHED 8%
From 17M - 19.9M DISTINGUISHED 9%

An attainment of less than 10MBELOW results in no payout.

Numeric interpolation

This table type calculates payout rates by determining the constant rate along the line between two attainment points. For example: or a rating of

Attainment Payout rate
10,000,000 5%
15,000,000 7%
17,000,000 10%
20,000,000 15%

or a rating ofTo find a payout rate for an attainment of 16,000,00: (16,000,000 - 15,000,000) / (17,000,000 - 15,000,000)

The payout rate = [(1 - .50) * $7] + (.50 * 10) = 8.5%

Interpolation using target

This calculates the payout rates by determining the constant rate along the line between the threshold and the target or between target and optimal.

The target quota, threshold and maximum are represented as numeric values, such as sales figures. Attainments (metrics) are represented as numeric values. Tables hold percent of the target quota attained. The percent of target quota is calculated by dividing the attainment metric by the target quota. For example:

Attainment range Payout rate
Threshold 7%
Target Quota 10%
Optimal 15%

To find the payout rate for an attainment of 16,000,000 (Threshold = $15,000,000, Target = 17,000,000.)

(16,000,000 - 15,000,000) / (17,000,000 - 15,000,000)

The payout is [(1 - .50) * 7%] + (.50 * 10%) =8.5%

Cumulative using target

Cumulative using target pays out a rate for every percent of target quota attained. The threshold and maximum are represented as a percent of Target quota (100 percent). Attainments are represented as a percent of the target; for example, 120 percent attainment. For example, if the base salary is 40,000:

Attainment Comp Example
Threshold Base comp 40,000
Target Quota (1%) Target comp 50,000
Optimal (3%) Upside 80,000

Threshold = 75, Target = 100, Optimal = 125 (%)

To find the payout rate for an attainment of 120% of quota:

  • Amount up to the target quota = (100-75) * (1% * base salary) = 10,000

  • Amount over the target up to optimal = (120-100) * (3% * base salary) = 24,000

  • Total payout = 10,000 + 24,000 = 34,000

Percent of target quota

Percent of target quota is typically used for commissions and sales where the payout is a percent of attainment (for example, sales). Payout rate is based on achievement of a percent of quota which is calculated by taking the amount attained as a percent of target quota.

The attainment is paid at one rate until the quota is reached. After quota reached, the attainment is paid at a different rate. For example, if the base salary is 40,000:

Attainment range Payout rate
50% 0.58
90% 0.78
100% 0.88
120% 1.17
140% 1.25

Threshold = 1,200,000, Target Quota = 1,500,000, Maximum = 1,950,000

To find the payout rate for an attainment of 2,500,000:

  • Percent of quota = 2,500,000 / 1,500,000 = 166.67%

  • Threshold percent of target quota = 1,200,000 / 1,500,000 = 80%

  • Maximum percent of target quota = 1,950,000 / 1,500,000 = 130%

Here is the payout calculation:

  • From 50% up to 90%: 90%-80% (threshold percent) = 10% * 1,500,000 = 150,000 * .58% = 870.

  • From 90% up to 100%: 100%-90% = 10% * 1,500,000 = 150,000 * .75% = 1125

  • From 100% up to 120%: 120%-100% = 20% * 1,500,000 = 300,000 * .88% = 2640

  • From 120% up to 140% 130% - 120% = 10% * 1,500,000 = 150,000 * 1.17% = 1755

  • Total payout = 6390

Percent step

This type of table determines the payout based on a step system that is based on a range of attainment values. The target quota, threshold and maximum are not recognized, and attainments are percent values. For example:

Attainment range Payout rate
From 90% - 94.9% 50%
From 95% - 97.9% 75%
From 100% 100%

An attainment of less than 90 percent results in no payout.

Percent interpolation

This table type calculates payout rates by determining the constant rate along the line between two attainment points. The target quota, threshold and maximum are not recognized, and attainments are percent values. For example:

Attainment range Payout rate
90% 50%
95% 75%
98% 90%
100% 100%

An attainment of less than 90 percent results in no payout.

To find the payout rate for an attainment of 97 percent:

  • (97% - 95%) / (98% - 95%)

  • [(1 - .666667) * 75%] + (.666667 * 90%) = 85%

Step percent of target quota

This type of table determines the payout based on a step system, where payout is determined based on a range of attainment values.

The threshold and maximum are not recognized. The target quota is represented as a numeric value. Attainments (metrics) are represented as numeric values. Tables hold the percent attained, which is calculated by taking the attainment / quota. for example:

Attainment range Payout rate
From 90% to 94.9% 50%
From 95% to 97.9% 75%
From 98% to 99.9% 90%
From 100% 100%

An attainment that correlates with a target of less than 90 percent results in no payout.

To find a payout rate for an attainment of 2,425,000:

  • The target quota = 2,500,000

  • Percent of target quota = 2,425,000 / 2,500,000 = 97 percent

  • The payout rate is 75 percent

The threshold and maximum are not recognized. The target quota is represented as a numeric value. Attainments (metrics) are represented as numeric values. Tables hold the percent attained, which is calculated by taking attainment / quota. For example:

Attainment range Payout rate
90% 50%
95% 75%
98% 90%
100% 100%

An attainment of less than 90 percent results in no payout.
