Owners and approvers of awarding views

When the awarding view is finalized and budget calculations are run, budgets are created for all supervisors. Only the budget owners and the supervisors above them in the supervisor structure can access the salary awarding views. Supervisors below the budget owner cannot see their own budgets (for their own direct reports).

On the awarding view, you can specify any supervisor level as the supervisor level that owns the award budgets generated when the budget calculations are run for the compensation awarding view.

Note: This feature is not required. If no supervisor level is specified, the budget owners are the direct supervisors for whom the budget is calculated.

The supervisor level is a supervisor type (with a defined level number) associated with one or more supervisor roles in the supervisor structure. The HR administrator is responsible for setting up supervisor types and levels and associating them with supervisor roles in Infor HR Talent. Some organizations have a lower level number as you climb the supervisor structure. Other organizations have a higher level number as you climb the supervisor structure.

If you specify a budget owner supervisor level, you can also specify what method to use to assign an alternate budget owner if the supervisor level does not exist in the supervisor structure. If you do not select a supervisor-not-found method and the specified supervisor level is not found in the supervisor structure, the direct supervisors in the supervisor structure are assigned as the budget owners.

  • If your organization has a lower level number as you climb the supervisor structure, you can select to have the next supervisor up in the supervisor structure with a lower level number assigned as the budget owner.

  • If your organization has a higher level number as you climb the supervisor structure, you can select to have the next supervisor up in the supervisor structure with a higher level number assigned as the budget owner.

If the awarding view requires approval, the approval process also starts at the specified (or derived) supervisor level.

Budget owners can be reassigned after the award budgets are created. As long as awarding budgets are in Draft status (have not been submitted), the current budget owners can delegate budgets that they own to any supervisor higher than them in the supervisor structure branch that they belong to. They can also delegate budgets they own to a lower-level supervisor in the supervisor structure branch (but not lower than the resources' direct supervisor).

Scenario 1 - No supervisor level specified

Assume this partial supervisor structure.

Supervisor name Supervisor role Supervisor type/level Reports to
James A 1- CEO 1 - CEO
Anne B 2 - CFO (Chief Financial Officer) 3 - Senior Executive CEO
John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer) 3 - Senior Executive CEO
Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager) 5 - Project Manager CTO
Todd J 5 - DT (Director of Technology) 5 - Project Manager CTO

Results: Direct supervisor own the budgets for their direct reports and have access to the budgets of the supervisors that report to them.

Supervisor name Supervisor role Budget owner name Budget owner role
James A 1- CEO James A 1- CEO
Anne B 2 - CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Anne B 2 - CFO (Chief Financial Officer)
John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer) John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer)
Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager) Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager)
Todd J 5 - DT (Director of Technology) Todd J 5 - DT (Director of Technology)

Scenario 2- Budget owner if the supervisor level is not found and the supervisor-not-found method is lower supervisor level

Assume this partial supervisor structure.

Supervisor name Supervisor role Supervisor type/level Reports to
James A 1- CEO 1 - CEO
Anne B 2 - CFO (Chief Financial Officer) 3 - Senior Executive CEO
John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer) 3 - Senior Executive CEO
Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager) 5 - Project Manager CTO
Todd J 5 - DT (Director of Technology) 5 - Project Manager CTO

Results if the assigned supervisor level for the awarding view is 4 (not found in the supervisor structure) and the supervisor-not-found method is lower supervisor level:

  • Supervisors at level 5 have their budgets assigned to John E who is the next supervisor up their supervisor structure branch with a lower supervisor level (3).

  • Supervisors at levels 3 and lower, keep their own budgets.

Supervisor name Supervisor role Budget owner name Budget owner role
James A 1- CEO James A 1- CEO
Anne B 2 - CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Anne B 2 - CFO (Chief Financial Officer)
John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer) John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer)
Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager) John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer)
Todd J 5 - DT (Director of Technology) John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer)

Scenario 3 - Budget owner if the supervisor level is not found and the supervisor-not-found method is higher supervisor level

Assume this partial supervisor structure.

Supervisor name Supervisor role Supervisor type/level Reports to
James A 1- CEO 5 - CEO
Anne B 2 - CFO (Chief Financial Officer) 3 - Senior Executive CEO
John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer) 3 - Senior Executive CEO
Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager) 2 - Project Manager CTO
Todd J 5 - DT (Director of Technology) 1 - Executive CTO

Results if the assigned supervisor level for the awarding view is 2:

  • Level 2 does not exist on Todd J's supervisor structure branch, so his budget is assigned to John E who is the next supervisor up the supervisor structure branch with a higher supervisor level (3).

  • Supervisors at level 2 and higher keep their own budgets.

Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager) Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager)
Todd J 5 - DT (Director of Technology) John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer)

Scenario 4- Budget owner if the supervisor level is specified and supervisor-not-found method is not specified

Assume this partial supervisor structure.

Supervisor name Supervisor role Supervisor type/level Reports to
James A 1- CEO 5 - CEO
Anne B 2 - CFO (Chief Financial Officer) 3 - Senior Executive CEO
John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer) 3 - Senior Executive CEO
Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager) 2 - Project Manager CTO
Todd J 5 - DT (Director of Technology) 1 - Executive CTO

Results if the assigned supervisor level for the awarding view is 3 (found in the supervisor structure).

  • Supervisors at levels 4 and have their budgets assigned to their direct supervisor, John E who is at level 3.

  • Supervisors at level 3 and their own supervisors keep their own budgets.

Kathy I 4 - PM (Product Manager) John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer)
Todd J 5 - DT (Director of Technology) John E 3 - CTO (Chief Technology Officer)

Results if the assigned supervisor level for the awarding view is 4 (not found in the supervisor structure):

Each supervisor is assigned to his or her own budget.
